11-year-old hit by car along N.C. 24-27

According to Albemarle police, a juvenile was struck by a car around 2 p.m. Saturday along N.C. Highway 24-27.

Kareem Maurice Hewitt, 19, of Albemarle was traveling east along the highway when the 11-year-old stepped in front of Hewitt’s 2017 Dodge, per the accident report. Hewitt attempted to swerve but collided with the pedestrian.

The pedestrian was taken to Atrium Health Stanly and sustained non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Due to the victim being a juvenile, his name will not be released.

The estimated damage to the car is $500.
