Mrs. Earle Burleson of New London was one of 80 North Carolina volunteer 4-H adult leaders who were being rewarded for their efforts with a five-day trip to the National 4-H Leader forum in Washington, D.C. March 14-19.

Mental Health

The Stanly County Mental Health Association and The Stanly News & Press had received awards at the annual meeting of the North Carolina Mental Health Association in Charlotte.

The local association had been cited with a runner-up award for the Most Outstanding Chapter in North Carolina in 1965. The citation specifically recognized the chapter for its “continuing program of outstanding activities in the field of Mental Health.”

The SNAP was one of three newspapers in the state to receive 1965 Newspaper Awards. It was cited for its “conscientious reporting and excellent creativity in presenting the facts on Mental Health.”

Woman’s Club

Members of the Community Service Department of the Albemarle Woman’s Club had voted to recommend purchase of a lot on which to build a club house.
