Stanly County Schools Superintendent Dr. Jarrod Dennis issued a statement regarding the future of the 2020-2021 school year Friday night.

“Stanly County Schools has carefully considered the options available under the new guidance of Senate Bill 220: The Reopen Our Schools Act of 2021 that Governor Cooper signed into law on March 11, 2021,” Dennis wrote. “Stanly County Schools will be operating in compliance with the new order after the Exceptional Children’s part of the bill is addressed.

“There will only be 33 days left in the 2020-2021 school year as of the date that the Reopen Our Schools Act will take effect. By changing our students’ schedules at this point to provide students with the most face-to-face days possible under the act, many students will have to move classrooms, be reassigned to different teachers, and the continuity of the current educational environment will be disrupted. The logistical considerations of having to add additional bus drivers, child nutrition workers, teachers, and other essential personnel will be almost impossible at this point in the school year.

“Therefore, the district has made the decision to continue with our current operations to avoid the disruption of student schedules and relocation of students to different schools and classrooms. As always, we thank you for your support of Stanly County Schools, and we look forward to a smooth ending to what has been a challenging school year.”
