North Stanly football opens season with non-conference win versus North Moore

The North Stanly Comets opened the 2020-21 football season Mar. 5 with a 24-15 non-conference win over North Moore.

Both teams scheduled the game after COVID-19 protocols cancelled the two team’s originally scheduled matchups. The Comets were traveling to Chatham Central while North Moore was to play at Albemarle.

Quarterback Luke Shaver led the Comets (1-0) with 55 passing yards throwing a touchdown pass to Cooper Hogan.

Christian Barber led North Stanly with 103 rushing yards and a touchdown, while kicker Mac Barfield had a 32-yard field goal.

Defensively, Junior Hill and Isaiah McCall each had interceptions, while Hogan, Ayden Carpenter and Meliek Bryant lead the team in tackles.
