Editor’s Note: The following letter is in response to one published in print March 14, and online.

Indeed, it is time to thank you, President Biden, for bring back sanity, science, empathy and all the positive values that this country has associated with true leadership in this country. Thank you for installing people with actual depths of experience in their fields to lead the various departments of your administration.
Thank you for helping the working people of this country by extending unemployment benefits through Sept. 6 at $300 a week. Benefits that are non-taxable and include 100 percent subsidy of COBRA health insurance premiums through the end of September.
Thank you for helping more than 80 percent of us with direct payments of $1,400, plus $1,400 per dependent, allowing so many who have lost so much to regain their footing at least to some extent.
Thank you for helping our struggling schools with funds to reduce class sizes, modify classrooms or hire counselors and nurses and much more.
Thank you for helping the restaurants and bars hurt by the pandemic to cover payroll, rent, utilities and other operations expenses — and money for the Paycheck Protection Plan and nonprofits that can now borrow money to help.
Thank you for the help with testing and administering of vaccines, bringing in thousands more to administer in hundreds of new locations where people are really suffering and all of which will finally bring this pandemic under control.
Finally, thank you for your integrity, your life of service to this nation and your willingness to give it all to help our struggling democracy get back on track after four years of chaos, lies and narcissism.
As President Biden says, though, it will take all of us who really care about the principles of Lincoln’s vision of equality to help steer this unwieldy ship of democracy. It will take patience, caring for and loving our neighbors as ourselves by all wearing masks during the pandemic, and loving the planet as God gave it for us to steward.
