Despite holding a lopsided advantage in shots and possession time, the Pfeiffer men’s soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to visiting Methodist University on Saturday night at Lefko Field in Misenheimer.

Methodist went ahead 1-0 in the 42nd minute when Alejandro Lopez scored an unassisted goal after a failed clear on a Monarch corner kick.  On the goal, the ball was controlled by Pfeiffer, but an errant pass found its way into space and Alejandro buried it past Pfeiffer goalkeeper Jovahny Herrera (Concord, N.C.).

In the second half, Methodist again made good on their scarce opportunities, when Hudson Zeisman scored an unassisted goal in the 52nd minute, beating Herrera to his right, making it 2-0.

Pfeiffer then went on a full attack, but was unable to get many decent chances in a packed-in Methodist defense.

Branson Adams (Asheboro, N.C.)Cristyan Cabrera (Salisbury, N.C.)Caz Darbrowski (Fuquay-Varina, N.C.) and Alejandro Gonzalez (Archdale, N.C.) all had tremendous second half chances, but were unable to put any past Monarch goalkeeper Cole Hupp.

Pfeiffer had a decided 22-3 advantage in shots and an 11-3 edge in corner kicks.  Pfeiffer also spent 64 percent of the match attacking in the Methodist side of the field.

The win improves Methodist to 1-3 overall and 1-2 in USA South play while Pfeiffer dips to 2-3 overall and 2-2 in league matches.

The Falcons will look to rebound in their next match, which is scheduled for 6 p.m. March 18 at Averett.
