Pfeiffer Women’s Soccer falls in double-overtime to William Peace

William Peach University scored in the 104th minute off a rebound to take a 2-1 double-overtime win over Pfeiffer University in a USA South women’s soccer match at the WakeMed Soccer Complex in Cary on Saturday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
After battling to a scoreless tie in the first half, WPU struck first in the 51st minute when Raine Greene received a pass from Kyra Delaney and was able to chip a shot over Pfeiffer goaltender Madison Riddle (Advance, N.C.).

Pfeiffer scored to knot the match in the 73rd minute when freshman Chloe Johnson (Fort Mill, S.C.) notched her first career goal on a low shot through traffic from the top of the box.

Neither team would be able to score the rest of the way, until Gabrielle Jones’ shot off a rebound found the net in the second overtime period, providing the golden goal and sending WPU to the win.

Pfeiffer held a 26-10 advantage on shots and a 6-1 cushion on corner kicks on the afternoon.
