The Stanly County Board of Commissioners passed a resolution to honor all the libraries in the county as part of National Library Week.

Stanly County Library Director Melanie Holles presented the resolution to the board at Monday’s meeting.

The resolution honored libraries for being “accessible and inclusive places that foster a sense of belonging and community” among other aspects. Libraries, librarians and library workers also allow people “to explore new worlds” and “in times of crisis..play an invaluable role in supporting their communities both in person and virtually.”

“Celebrations are quiet this year, but better than last year when we were closed,” Holles said about National Library Week. “Our libraries are open and we are waiting to help the citizens of the county.”

Holles also updated commissioners regarding the installation of 5G WiFi internet access at several of the library’s locations. According to Holles, the library locations at Norwood, Oakboro and Locust all have 5G wireless access, both in the buildings and in the parking lot.

The library director said one of the reasons for internet access in the parking lot was to help students studying remotely who can not connect at home.
