The Albemarle Fire Department responded to a house fire on North Broome Street Wednesday evening, according to Fire Chief T. Pierre Brewton.

He said the occupants of the house — a woman and two children — were able to safely get out, but their two dogs did not.

“When they got there, they were able to get a pretty quick knockdown on the structure and were able to save the bulk of the house,” Brewton said of the firefighters, though he didn’t know specifics regarding how damaged the home was.

It took fire personnel about 15 minutes to get the fire under control, Brewton said.

Albemarle Fire Marshal Michael Roark is still investigating the cause of the fire, he said.
