Upcoming public hearings for the Badin Town Council will afford citizens the opportunity to speak on several issues.

At Tuesday’s meeting, the board approved a public hearing regarding parking on Holly Place between Willow and Cedar streets. The meeting will seek input on a motion passed by the council Tuesday to ban on-street parking while putting down gravel parking spots on the portion of Pine Street Park which borders Holly Place.

Badin’s council also set up the parking spaces as 90 degrees, where cars can pull straight in rather than angled. The council voted 4-1, with Mayor Pro Tem Deloris Chambers voting against it, to make it 90 degrees. The consensus was angled parking would make Holly Place need to be a one-way road.

Badin Town Manager Jay Almond said 17 to 18 spaces would be available in the new area. The parking would be for Holly Place residents and visitors to the park.

Almond said once the area is graded and gravel put down, paving would be easier to do if the council wanted to do that.

The public hearing will be before the May 11 meeting at 6:45 p.m.

The Badin Town Council passed a motion at Tuesday’s meeting to have a public hearing regarding the 2020-21 budget. It is scheduled for 6 p.m. May 11.

The council will meet at 6 p.m. April 27 for a budget retreat at the Badin Convention Room.

At 6:30 p.m. May 11, a public hearing has been planned to discuss possible parking restrictions on Nantahala Street between Henderson and Boyden streets.
