After more than a year closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Eastern Cabarrus Historical Society Museum in Mt. Pleasant will reopen to the public on May 1.

Museum hours will be Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Masks and social distancing will be required per state guidelines.

There is no charge to tour the museum, but donations are always appreciated.

While the museum has been closed to the public, some updates and changes have been made, including the addition of a welcome center and a retail space in the country store room where items like books and old-fashioned candy will be available to purchase.

Housed on the campus of the former Mt. Pleasant Collegiate Institute and its predecessors, Western Carolina Male Academy and North Carolina College, the Eastern Cabarrus Historical Society is a non-profit organization committed to restoring and preserving the history of eastern Cabarrus County. The ECHS Museum comprises 30 themed rooms, each dedicated to a unique aspect of local history.
