New voting software for future elections in Stanly was approved by the county commissioners at Monday night’s meeting.

Elections Director Kim Blackwelder made the presentation for the purchase of EVS 5.2.4.0. Blackwelder said the software works with the equipment currently used by the Board of Elections.

A management workstation computer was approved for purchase at a cost of $3,694 from state grant funds. No local funds will be used.

Stanly’s elections board conducted a “satisfactory” election simulation April 6 and has received approval from the state’s Board of Elections to implement the new system.

Commissioners had accepted and appropriated the funds for the software upgrade last month.
