Optimist

Dane Perry, son of Mr. and Mrs. H.A. Perry of Albemarle, a member of the senior class at Albemarle Senior High School, had been named the Stanly County Boy of the Year Tuesday night by the Albemarle Optimist Club.

Perry, a Morehead Scholarship recipient, had received an engraved gold watch.

Bricks

Cecil Barbee, a senior at West Stanly High School, had placed fourth in the bricklaying contest held for the state at Raleigh.

Previously he had won top honors in the Area 12 contest at Norwood. A student of Harold Burris in the West Stanly vocational program, he is the son of Mr. and Mrs. M.L. Barbee of Oakboro.

Burris said there were 3,700 students in 139 high school vocational programs over the state, and that he considered fourth in such a large number of students as very noteworthy.

Barbee received a trophy for his achievement.

Schools

The Stanly County Board of Education had received approval from the State Board of Education for additions at the three consolidated high schools to be paid for with state school bond money.

The additions were for eight classrooms at North Stanly and six each at West Stanly and South Stanly.
