The Stanly Community College Foundation has announced the establishment of the Martha Mullinix Scholarship.

Martha Mullinix

Mullinix was a retired teacher of Norwood Elementary, where she served 30 years before retiring from Stanly County Schools. She enjoyed teaching and stayed in touch with her students throughout the years, and always made sure each student in her classroom received a
Christmas present.

“After Martha’s passing, we felt a strong need to do something to honor her life and continue her legacy of love. She had a passion and a calling for educating young children in the community in which she served,” said Melissa Preslar, daughter-in-law of Mullinix. “Never one to let a child go without, she often sought to fill the need, whatever it may have been. Keeping that in mind, we hope this scholarship will fill the need for a student who seeks to make a difference in their community through early childhood education.”

The Martha Mullinix Scholarship will be available for full-time or part-time students, preferably studying in the Early Childhood Education program, and have a 3.0 GPA. Students can apply using SCC’s Institutional Scholarship application located on the College’s website at www.stanly.edu. Moving forward, a $500 scholarship will be available for the fall and spring semesters, a total of $1,000, beginning November 2022.
