Weavil will assume his new role for the City of Albemarle on May 17 and fills the vacancy created by the retirement of former Finance Director Colleen Conroy.

Weavil has served the City of Albemarle since August 2018 as the assistant finance director. Over the last two years, he has supervised the annual audit, worked with the NC Division of Emergency Management Recovery (NCEM) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to receive disaster recovery funds, and managed all aspects of the daily financial operations of the city.

Weavil is a native of Davidson County, growing up in the Town of Wallburg. He has lived in Stanly County since 2008. He holds an Associate’s Degree from Stanly Community College and a Bachelor’s Degree from Pfeiffer University concentrating in Business Management and Leadership. He is midway through his NC Finance Officer Certification from the NC School of Government at Chapel Hill.

Weavil also possesses management experience from retail and commercial banking, including loan processing, financial analysis, and managing high volume loan portfolios. He is passionate about combining his experience in local government with his background in banking to strengthen the core foundations of financial management that the city and its leadership team have built.

Weavil’s life goal has been to find the balance between a meaningful career and family.

“Working for the city is truly a joy,” Weavil said. “My mentor taught me the value of hard work and dedication to your craft. Colleen taught me the real meaning in loving the place you live and loving what you do. My family teaches me every day that service to something greater than yourself is a life worth living. Thank you for this opportunity to serve the City of Albemarle.”

City Manager Michael Ferris said, “I am excited to have Jacob serve as our next director of finance. During his time with the city he has proven himself to be a valuable part of this organization. He is extremely hardworking and constantly seeks ways to expand his knowledge and utilize what he has learned for the betterment of the organization. He also possesses the qualities necessary to be a leader and has gained the respect of those with whom he works.”
