Brent Hefron, president of Stanly Gardens of Memory turned the first shovel of earth to the start of construction on the mausoleum to be built in the cemetery.

Wiscassett

Wiscassett Mills Company in Albemarle had been named winner of the top manufacturing honor for 1980 by Cannon Mills Company.

The Charles A. Cannon Award was presented to John Morrow, vice president and director of manufacturing at Wiscassett, at the recent annual meeting of company supervisors.

The presentation was made by Otto G. Stolz, chairman of the board and president, for the best overall performance during the past year. Factors considered included excellence in all segments of manufacturing, morale among employees, quality of products manufactured, waste control, maintenance, safety and housekeeping.

Wiscassett won the Good Housekeeping Award in 1979 and the Energy Conservation Award in 1980.
