Park
Construction of the large L-shaped swimming poll in Albemarle’s new Northwoods Park was delayed a few days pending arrival of gutter steel. The steel arrived on the site Thursday and construction was expected to continue at a rapid pace.
Schools
Albemarle Superintendent Dr. William L. Brown projected a continued decline in the enrollment of the Albemarle City Schools for 1981-82.
Brown predicted that the fall enrollment had climbed to 2,175, down from last fall’s opening day of 2,213.
Honors
The Yadkin River Patriots Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution cited eight local high school students for good citizenship when they met Friday at the McCain Memorial Clubhouse.
Honored were Marla Jane Hathcock and Tim Alan Fesperman of West Stanly High, Bernard Walter Crump and Ellen Skidmore of South Stanly High, Christopher Tandy Dial and Eva Carol Pickler of North Stanly High and Bobby Gaskin and Catherine Montgomery of Albemarle Senior High.
The boys received Good Citizenship Medals and certificates and girls Good Citizen Pins and certificates. The awards were based on honor, service, courage, leadership dependability and patriotism.
