Badin

West Badin High School would be closed after this year because of the small number of students who had expressed a desire to attend the school.

The Stanly County Board of Education had a resolution which would result in the closing of the school and asked for state approval.

Only 55 students had said West Badin was their preference for a high school. The majority of students would be accommodated at North Stanly in the fall.

Bank

Plans for construction of its fourth drive-up branch banking facility had been announced by First National Bank of Albemarle. It would be near the corner of Penney and Shankle streets and face the new Quenby Shopping Center.

Optimist

Dallas Durham was named Optimist of the Year by the Albemarle Optimist Club at the annual Ladies Night banquet. Harold Clayton, incoming president, presented Durham with a life membership from Optimist International.
