Pfeiffer Athletics announces 2020-21 special awards

Four individuals have been selected as special award recipients from the Pfeiffer University Athletic Department. These awards are given annually to student-athletes that not only excel on the field, but exemplify the complete term of student-athlete.

N.E. Lefko Sportsmanship Awards
Senior baseball player Kyler Fairchild (Taylorsville, N.C.) is the male recipient of the N.E. Lefko Sportsmanship Award.

Fairchild, a four-year member of the Falcon baseball team is, was described by head baseball coach Craig Bolton. “Kyler’s willingness to help others and his attitude towards his teammates and opponents are something you wish every player had. He has shown the ability to maintain a level-head regardless of the situation and his respect for the game of baseball is first-class.”

Senior softball player Paige Love (Rock Hill, S.C.) has been selected as the female recipient of the N.E. Lefko Sportsmanship Award.

Described by head coach Monte Sherrill as the ultimate student-athlete, “Paige managed to be involved heavily on campus not only as a member of the softball program, but in various clubs and activities.  She handled her collegiate career with excellence, style and grace and she definitely deserves the recognition that comes with receiving the Lefko Sportsmanship Award.”

Fred West Academic Award
The Fred West Academic Award is presented annually to the Pfeiffer student-athlete that accumulated the highest undergraduate grade point average during their undergraduate career.

Senior women’s soccer and women’s lacrosse player Patricia Summers (Lenoir, N.C.) is this year’s award winner. Summers recently graduated with a degree in psychology while maintaining one of the highest grade point averages amongst student-athletes over her Pfeiffer career.

“Academically, Patty has to be one of the brightest students at Pfeiffer,” said head women’s soccer coach Katie Cobb. “Her consistent hard work, curiosity and professionalism made her one of the catalysts of our program. There is no doubt that she will succeed in the professional world and in her future endeavors.”

Joe Ferebee Legacy Award
The Joe Ferebee Legacy Award is presented to a baseball player that embodies characteristics of the beloved late baseball coach Joe Ferebee.

Hard work, good character, leadership selflessness and a deep passion for the game of baseball are all traits that described this year’s winner, and those of the late Joe Ferebee. Senior pitcher Brett Graham has been selected as the recipient of the 2021 Joe Ferebee Legacy Award.

“Brett Graham has been a tremendous asset to our program over the past few years,” said head coach Craig Bolton. “His dedication and work-ethic on and off the field is unmatched. Brett was our ultimate team guy this year, going above and beyond in many different areas, not only for his own successes but the team’s successes. He is as selfless as they come with an immense passion for just wanting to be on the baseball field and making people around him better.”
