The N.C. Department of Transportation has awarded contracts to replace two bridges in Anson County, starting as soon as June 28.

The first contract was awarded for $2.9 million to Smith – Rowe, LLC out of Mount Airy to replace the bridge on N.C. 109 over Deadfall Creek near the South Carolina line. A new bridge will be built south of the existing bridge, built in 1936.

Traffic will be maintained on site during construction, with the new bridge complete by August 2022. Vegetation establishment will continue through January 2023.

The second contract was awarded to Sloan Construction, a division of Reeves Construction from Duncan, S.C. The $5.3 million project will replace the bridge on U.S. 52 crossing Rocky River from Anson County into Stanly County. Crews will build a new bridge to the east of the existing bridge built in 1923.

No offsite detour will be needed since traffic will be maintained on U.S. 52 during construction. The bridge should be completed by June 2023, with vegetation establishment ongoing through December 2023.
