New London’s town commissioners passed a resolution at Tuesday’s regular meeting expressing concerns regarding a state permit application for the Parker Mine on Steakhouse Road.

The resolution stated the town of New London “desires to seek ways to protect our town from negative impacts of development.”

Further, the resolution stated “the proposed mine could have adverse effect on the Yadkin Pee Dee water basin which provides municipal water to many counties.”

Commissioners in the resolution also listed seven churches, five schools, three cemeteries and two “heavily-used parks.”

“Town citizens are very concerned about the devaluation of their property and cumulative impacts,” it read.

Mayor Tate Daniels said the resolution “states the position” of the board in reference to the permit application by Boulder Associates LLC.

Johnny Chestnut, the mayor pro tem, made the motion, which was seconded and passed unanimously.
