Athletes from Stanly County schools to compete in 1A track regionals

Many athletes representing high school programs in Stanly County will compete at Friday’s 1A track regionals at Davie Senior High School in Mocksville.

Albemarle

The Bulldogs’ track team will have multiple athletes representing the school at Friday’s regionals.

Arianna Burns will run in the 100-meter hurdles for the Albemarle women’s team while Abigail Clayton will run in the 100-meter dash. Clayton will also run in the 400-meter run and be part of the school’s 4×200 relay team, including Diamond Smith, Tamiyah Sellers and Marigah Lilly.

Sellers will also run in the 100-meter dash and the 4×100 meter relay with Burns, Clayton and Smith.

Somahje Porter, who earlier in her career won a state title in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles, will run in the same event Friday. She will also compete in triple jump.

In field events, Marigah Lilly will throw the shotput for the Bulldogs.

On the men’s side, D.J. Watkins and Miles Gregory will both throw the shotput while Watkins will also throw the discus.

Ali Currie has qualified for regionals in high jump and triple jump while Jason Wall will also do the triple jump.

In track events, Anthony Chambers will run the 110-meter hurdles while Christian Poplin and Jayden Pinkney will run in the 100-yard dash. Chambers and C.J. Ellis will also run the 300-meter intermediate hurdles.

Albemarle’s 4×200-meter relay team of Ashton Cason, CJ Ellis, Pinkney and Poplin will compete along with the 4×100 team of Chambers, Pinkney, Ellis and Poplin.

In the 400-meter run, Reyli Alvarez and Isaiah Jones will be in the 400 and 800-meter runs.

Pinkney will run in the 200-meter dash while the 4×400 team of Alvarez, Ellis, Poplin and Chambers will compete.

Gray Stone Day

The Knights’ women’s team will be represented by Mallory Hill in the shotput along with Emberleigh Pauley-Brown in the 800-, 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs.

Grace Eppeheimer will run the 800-meter race as well for Gray Stone.

On the men’s side, Ethan Wilkes will run the 400-meter dash along with teammates Alec Barbetto and Quentin Hippert.

North Stanly

On the women’s side, Taegan Lowder is one of the highest-ranking athletes in the 1A in long jump and triple jump. She will compete in both at regionals along with the high jump.

Alex Childress will run for North in the 800 meters while Lexi Goode will take part in the 1,600 meters.

For the North men’s team, Alex Huneycutt will run in the hurdles event while both Kyree Dykes and Isaiah McCall will compete in the long jump and triple jump.

Nicholas McClure will run both of the longest of the distance races, the 1,600- and 3,200-meter events, while Dylan Blalock will throw the discus.

South Stanly

The team of Jayden Powe, Ezra Powe, Jaquavius Caraway and Omaurion Eldridge will compete in both the 4×100 and 4×200 meter relays.

In the 4×400 meter event, Malik Kluttz, Joseph Huneycutt, Tristen Patterson and Jameel Shaeed will compete for the Rebel Bulls.

Ranfere Garcia and Josh Huneycutt will both run in the 1,600-meter event. Huneycutt will also run in the 800-meter event.
