Nantz receives piano award

Emma Nantz was awarded the Paderewski Gold Medal in the piano auditions sponsored by the National Guild of Piano Teachers.

She received a “Superior Plus” rating performing before guild adjudicator Katherine Santiago.

Emma is a piano student of Joyce Harwood.

She has played a 10-piece memorized program for 10 years in the National Piano Playing Auditions. Emma’s program consisted of pieces by Bach, Chopin, Mozart, Grieg, Pescetti and Rollins along with musicianship phases.

Emma is the daughter of Dan and Lorrie Nantz. She is the grand-daughter of Helen Nantz and the late Roy Nantz, Bill and Jan Privette.

She is 19 and attends Catawba College, where she is double-majoring in Business Administration and Spanish. On campus, she is the newly-elected president of the Phi Beta Lambda Business Society and Spanish Club. Emma also serves in Student Government, as an orientation coordinator and on Honors Council for the Honors Program. She also enjoys being part of the Commuter Connect Organization and Delphinian Society.

Emma attends chapel regularly on campus and is active in singing and playing piano for services. She is looking forward to being an ambassador and supplemental instructor for Catawba in the fall.

In her free time, Emma enjoys spending time with her sister, Polly, and her friends on and off campus. She also loves to write poetry and songs, and read.
