The Stanly County Community Foundation recently awarded more than $50,000 in grants this year to 20 nonprofits. The grants will support projects and programs that address four key investment areas in 2021: arts and culture, education, health and human services.

The Foundation chose grants from organizations and programs that strive to increase stability and opportunity for individuals and families in Stanly County.

Grants from this cycle include $7,000 to Stanly Community Christian Ministry to provide clients financial assistance with rent or utilities, $5,000 to the Stanly County Family YMCA for summer camp scholarships and $1,080 to The Mary and Martha Center for Women and Community Care to support its mentor program.

Stanly County Community Foundation is a regional affiliate of Charlotte-based Foundation For The Carolinas, and the grants are awarded by the local Stanly County Community Foundation Board of Advisors.

“Our board is thrilled that during COVID-19 recovery, and a time of many needs in our community, that we are able to make grants to many great organizations doing great things for people in our community,” said Paul Childress, Stanly County Community Foundation board chairman. “We are so fortunate to have these organizations in our community and fortunate for the services that they provide to help our neighbors.”

Stanly County Family YMCA was one of the beneficiaries of SCCF’s grant funding this year. These funds support the Open Doors Scholarships for YMCA Summer Camp, which helps families who cannot afford YMCA services.

“The Stanly County Community Foundation has been and continues to be a tremendous benefactor and partner to the Stanly County Family YMCA,” explained George Crooker, CEO of Stanly County YMCA. “Through [SCCF’s] support of youth development and education, they have enabled hundreds of children to experience the Y camps that never would have been able. They give us the ability to teach core values and educate. It is wonderful to be partners with an organization that truly cares about our community.”

Stanly County Community Foundation’s 2021 grants include:

• $2,000 to Stanly County Arts Council to support a Summer Arts Camp for first through sixth grade students.

• $5,000 to Stanly County Family YMCA to help families afford YMCA Summer Camp.

• $950 to West Stanly Community Foundation to provide outdoor seating for a safe meeting space.

• $7,000 to Stanly Community Christian Ministry to provide clients financial assistance with rent or utilities.

• $2,500 to the American Red Cross to provide aid to disaster victims.

• $1,080 to The Mary and Martha Center for Women and Community Care to support its mentor program.

• $1,000 to Community Adult Respite Experience to improve safety measures for seniors.

• $5,000 to Bridge to Recovery to provide transportation to and from treatment facilities.

• $2,500 to Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte to help provide Stanly County families a place to stay while their child seeks critical treatment.

• $3,500 to Stanly Community College to improve educational services to local fire/rescue personnel.

• $2,500 to Stanly County Senior Services to replace the awning over the entrance to the Senior Center.

• $3,000 to Crisis Assistance Fund for assistance to families that have bed bugs.

• $4,000 to GHA Autism Supports to purchase three defibrillators.

• $2,500 to Stanly County Partnership for Children to support its early literacy program.

• $750 to Stanly County Historical Society to support its “International Play Music on the Porch Day” event.

• $2,500 to Live Again Ministries for its an after-school program for at-risk teens.

• $1,500 Boy Scouts of America, Central NC Council to provide registration scholarships, program support, uniforms, books, meals and transportation.

• $1,000 Aspire Youth & Family to provide hands-on culinary arts training and other employment assistance.
