The N.C. Department of Transportation has awarded a $15.3 million contract to improve approximately six miles of Interstate 85 between exits 36 and 42 in Mecklenburg County.

The contract calls for milling and paving travel lanes and adding pavement markings and snow plowable pavement markers. Entrance and exit ramps will also be improved at interchanges within the project limits.

The contract also includes preservation work to the 29/49 connector bridge over I-85 South to extend its service life and condition.

Work can get underway as early as July 26 and is scheduled to be completed by May 2023.
