I shared in the last Peeking in the Past that the annual Oakboro July 4th celebration was cancelled after the 1941 event.
The city did not resume the celebration until 1958. During that year the local fire department sponsored the event as a way to raise money for a new fire truck.
The city has held a July 4th celebration every year since 1958 except for 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Today’s photo, courtesy of the Oakboro Regional Museum of History, shows the descendants of R.C. Hatley in his car that has been a part of the Oakboro July 4th parade every year since 1960.
