Pageant

Elaine Yost was named Miss Congeniality in the 1981 Miss Wheelchair North Carolina contest in Charlotte.

The Albemarle woman,who had spinal cerebellum, said the contest was a delightful experience. As winner of this title, she received a trophy, a necklace and bouquet and invited back to compete the following year and attend the planning meeting for the 1982 contest.

Coach

Charles Phillips, 29, was the new head football coach at South Stanly High School, succeeding Bill Hinson as coach of the Rebels. Hinson had assumed the duties of principal at Stanfield School.
