Fire Queen

The new Miss Stanly Fire Queen was Debra Rena Barbee, 17-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wilson J. Barbee of Locust, who represented the Locust Volunteer Fire Department in the contest.

First runner-up and also winner of the Miss Congeniality title was Melisa Efird, representing Aquadale VFD. Second runner-up was Susan McCollum, New London VFD.

Other contestants were Sharon Crisco, Oakboro Rural; Starla Cauble, Endy; Beth Hartsell, Oakboro City; Lori Sasser, Bethany; Judy Seamon, Ridgecrest; Donna Sells, Southside; Beth Little, Rocky River; Jennifer Pharr, Richfield-Misenheimer; and Hope Hathcock, Norwood City.

The ability to give IV fluids to patients was a new advancement for the ambulance service of Stanly County.
