BADIN/PALESTINE NEWS: Morrow begins Citizen Science Series

Morrow Mountain

The first of several Morrow Mountain Citizen Science Series activities will begin Wednesday with a Herpetology Hike from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Call the Park Office at 704-982-4402 to sign up. The Boathouse Parking Lot is the starting location for this week’s event. The next Citizen Science Series activity will be July 14.

Jo Grey

A special program celebrating World Snake Day is planned for 5:30-6:30 p.m. July 16 at the amphitheater. Email Alden Early at Alden.early@ncparks.gov to sign up for this program.

Better Badin

The all-volunteer group meets the second Monday of each month. Join the effort to make Badin better by attending the July 12 meeting at Loafers and Legends at 6:30 p.m.

Town Council

The Council’s regular monthly meeting is July 13 at 7 p.m. in the Badin Conference Center on Falls Road. Visitors are welcome.

Movies on the Green

Bring lawn chairs and blankets and invite friends and neighbors to the Village Green on July 17 for Better Badin’s first movie presentation, “Forrest Gump.” Food, beer and wine will be available beginning at 7 p.m. and all proceeds will go to Tho Pizza and Hot Subs restaurant to aid in recovery from the May fire.

Library
It’s adult craft time again July 20 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. A small fee is charged for supplies. Everyone is welcome.

As of July 6, the Monday and Thursday hours are 3-7 p.m. and Tuesday hours are 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

First Baptist

The church will reopen for in-person services at 11 a.m. July 25 at 201 Wayne St.

The Free Summer Food Outreach continues with drive-thru distribution Tuesday and Thursday from 12:15-1:15 p.m. Free meals are being distributed to youth up to age 18, ensuring children have access to nutritious meals when school is not in session.

Palestine UMC

The community is invited to Sunday school at 10 a.m. in the fellowship hall, followed by 11 a.m. worship. The church is at 36414 Palestine Road, Albemarle. The following activities are open to all.

The Prayer Shawl Ministry group meets each Monday at 10 a.m. in the fellowship hall. Please bring yarn, knitting needles or crochet hooks and the names of anyone who would be blessed by a prayer shawl. Joyce Hatley is the contact for this group.

Love Thy Neighbor ministry will serve the SCCM Community Table July 10. All volunteers are welcome and asked to meet at 10 a.m. in the Palestine UMC Fellowship Hall.

Palestine Pals meets July 13 at 11:30 at Rosebriar Restaurant for a meal and fellowship.

Palestine UMC will host a Picnic on the Lawn fundraiser dinner July 17 beginning at 4 p.m. Barbecue, various sides, homemade ice cream and desserts will be available. Donations accepted.
