An Albemarle man died after a vehicle hit him while he was on his moped last Thursday.

Albemarle resident Kassidy Mansfield, 35, was driving east on Wiscassett Street at 9:39 p.m. and was making a left turn onto Long Street when her 2000 Mazda struck a 2007 TaoTao moped heading west on Wiscassett Street driven by 50-year-old Liles Levander, according to the accident report released by Albemarle Police.

Levander was taken to CMC Main in Charlotte, where he was pronounced dead two days later, according to Capt. J.T. Cranford, who noted Mansfield did not appear to have been injured.

Mansfield stated she did not see Levander because his vehicle had no lights on, according to the report, and neither alcohol nor drugs appear to have played a role in the collision.

The investigation is still ongoing and APD will be talking with the District Attorney’s office once the investigation is finished regarding any potential charges in the case, Cranford said.
