With fall approaching, there are only a few months before candidates can file to run for political office next year.

Candidates must be affiliated with a particular party for 90 days from the date they file a notice of candidacy, according to Elections Director Kim Blackwelder. The filing period begins Dec. 6 and will run through Dec. 17.

If candidates want to change their political party, they have until Sept. 19 to do so in order to fulfill the 90-day requirement.

In addition, candidates registered as Unaffiliated are ineligible to file as a candidate in the primary and must file through a petition process.

Candidate filing fees and additional information should be available and posted on the Stanly County Board of Elections website in the neat future.
