East Carolina University and Stanly Community College have entered into an agreement designed to improve transfer student access and success through a collaborative Bachelor’s Degree completion program called Pirate Promise, a transfer program for students who are in their first year of coursework at SCC.

The program provides advising assistance and support before applying to ECU, as well as guaranteed admission and a waived application fee. Other benefits include the ECU one-card, access to Career Services, the Writing Center, Financial Aid and ECU libraries, among other benefits.

High school juniors in a Career and College Promise or Early College program, or community college students, are eligible to apply to Pirate Promise. All applicants must fulfill the following requirements: enrollment in 12 hours of credit (EC/CCP students exempt), a 2.5 GPA and enrollment in an approved transfer program in the first year of coursework.

“Stanly Community College is excited to enter into this agreement with East Carolina University,” said Jeff Parsons, SCC vice president of academic affairs and chief academic officer. “This is a great way to support students planning to transfer after completing at Stanly and help them make a smooth transition.”

Erica Hoyt, ECU associate director for transfer recruitment, noted, “East Carolina places tremendous value on transfer student success and community college partnerships and we are delighted to have Stanly Community College join the Pirate Promise family. With Pirate Promise, Stanly Community College students will have access to a wealth of support, resources, and engagement opportunities while completing an Associate’s Degree. We look forward to connecting with Stanly Community College students early on in the process to facilitate a positive academic and transfer experience. Welcome aboard, Stanly Community College.”
