The Locust Jaycettes had adopted a project of sending The Stanly News & Press to servicemen from their community who were now in Vietnam. They had placed a box in the Locust Post Office in which names and addresses of the men could be deposited.

Leaders for the project were Barbara Greene and Dorothy Honeycutt. Other club members included Brenda Carpenter, president; Betty Mullis, director; and Patty Honeycutt, secretary.
