Pfeiffer volleyball improves to 8-2 with pair of wins

On the road this past weekend at Brevard, the Pfeiffer women’s volleyball team swept a tri-match with the Tornadoes and Maryville. The Falcons topped Brevard 3-1 (19-25, 25-17, 25-21, 27-25) and Maryville 3-2 (22-25, 25-21, 25-23, 18-25, 15-12).

Mattie Burris (Misenheimer N.C.) and Mattie Hinson (Norwood, N.C.) each had 10 kills as Pfeiffer downed the host Tornados.  Freshman Kylee Mayberry (Harmony, N.C.) had 26 assists while Kira Suttles (Morganton, N.C.) delivered 15 assists in the win.

Defensively, Burris had four solo blocks and four block assists while Emma Gray Beacham (Laurinburg, N.C.)  had a team-best 18 digs.

As a team, Pfeiffer recorded a .181 hitting percentage and limited Brevard to a .090 percentage in the match.

Versus Maryville, freshman Anya Parker (Fort Mill, S.C.) had a team-best 14 kills while Hinson and Burris had nine and eight kills, respectively in a 3-2 win over Maryville.

Burris had another solid match at the net, finishing with five block assists. Beacham once again led Pfeiffer with 15 digs while Emily Cole (Concord, N.C.) and Morgan Shrader (Matthews, N.C.) had 10 each.

Mayberry and Suttles once again had solid performances, with Mayberry notching 25 assists and Suttles finishing with 20.

Pfeiffer will host USA South East Division rival Salem College at 7 p.m. Tuesday  in a USA South match in Merner Gym.
