Karen Moxley of Salisbury tried her luck on a brand-new game and took home the first top prize of $200,000.

Moxley bought her $5 Bonus Bucks ticket from the Durga Discount Mart on Old Mocksville Road in Salisbury and claimed her prize Monday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required federal and state tax withholdings, she took home $141,501.

The game launched this month with four $200,000 top prizes. Three remain to be won.

Ticket sales from scratch-off games make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $900 million per year for education. For details on how $7.4 million raised by the lottery made a difference in Rowan County in 2020, visit and click on the “Impact” section.
