Morton

Joshua J. Morton Jr., an Albemarle resident and recent graduate of Wake Forest Law School, had announced that he was opening an office here for the practice of law.

His office would be on North Second Street, above Leonard’s Jewelry.

The young lawyer had been presented to the Superior Court in Wadesboro by his uncle, G. Hobart Morton, veteran member of the Albemarle Bar. He said he would engage in the general practice of law.

Princess

Asta Hrolfstoddir, Albemarle’s Icelandic AFS Exchange student, had been elected to be 1966 Carrousel Princess for Albemarle Senior High School.

She had been named by the senior class from among six nominees. Other contestants were Nancy Almond, Penny Furr, Louise Harrington, Beth Moose and Joy Vanderburg.

Tough Guy

Jerry McLester, a 6-foot-2, 175-pound senior at West Stanly High School, had been named “tough guy of the week” by the WSHS coaching staff for his heroic efforts last Friday night as Coach Jim Norton’s Colts edged the home field Parkwood gridsters by a score of 8-7 in a Rocky River Athletic Conference encounter.
