The Stanly Community College (SCC) Foundation announces the establishment of the Richard Lane Brown III Scholarship.

The scholarship is for $1,000 ($500/fall and $500/spring) for eligible students, and will be available starting the fall 2022 semester. Scholarship applications for fall 2022 will open Nov. 1 and are on the financial aid page at www.stanly.edu.

Brown, one of the original SCC Board of Trustees and an elected member of the North Carolina House of Representatives from 1971-1976, helped guide the college in its creation in the very early
beginnings. Brown and the late Sen. Frank Patterson introduced legislative bills in July 1971 that
created and provided funding for what was then Stanly Technical Institute. Brown was one of the keynote speakers during SCC’s 50th Anniversary Kickoff Celebration this past July on the Albemarle campus.

Since 1971, Stanly Community College has provided educational and career training opportunities to thousands of people across the region. Today, SCC serves nearly 10,000 students annually.
