The Pfeiffer men’s soccer used a pair of first half goals on their way to a 2-1 win over rival Greensboro in a physical USA South match on Saturday night at Lefko Field.

In the first half, Pfeiffer (5-7, 2-3 USA South) freshman Steven Lozano (Kannapolis, N.C.) scored his first career goal on a header he received from sophomore Sam Stewart (Belhaven, N.C.). On the free kick, Stewart shot the ball into the box, where Lozano redirected with a header to the left of the Greensboro goalkeeper, giving the Falcons the lead in the 35th minute.

The Falcon lead expanded to 2-0 less than three minutes later when freshman Jean Bah (Charlotte, N.C.) notched his fifth goal of the season on a pass from Branson Adams (Asheboro, N.C.).  Adams’ ball, found Bah on the right side of the box with Bah’s shot finding the side net of the goal on a shot across the goal mouth.

Greensboro (7-7-1, 3-1-1)  cut the lead to 2-1 in the 64th minute when Merced Mendez Flores scored an unassisted goal, his fourth of the season.

Both teams had several quality chances in the waning minutes of the match, but Pfeiffer goalkeeper
Ali Jaafar (Matthews, N.C.) made several great saves to preserve the win.  All told, Jaafar finished the match with six saves.

With their home schedule complete, Pfeiffer will hit the road for their next USA South match when they travel to Fayetteville Wednesday to tangle with Methodist at 7 p.m.
