Carolina Dentistry and Dentures, which operates five locations across the state, will open its newest office in Albemarle.

It will be at 1001 N. First St., at the site of Dr. Bruce Smith’s former dental practice. He retired last year after serving the community for more than 40 years.

The office will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday as Dr. Catherine Laws, DDS, a 2002 Pfeiffer University alumna, will be rotating between Albemarle and other locations throughout the week.

She graduated from West Virginia University’s dental school in 2006.

Laws and the rest of her team had a ribbon cutting ceremony to signify the launch of the new business. Smith was also at the event, where he toured the renovated facility.

As a former Falcon, opening the new location in Stanly County carried added significance for Laws, who lives in Concord with her husband and children.

“The area has always kind of held a special place in her heart and so she was ecstatic to learn that the location was for sale and she was thinking it was coming back home,” said Grace Molby, marketing coordinator for Carolina Dentistry.

Laws’ continuing education revolves around the effects of oral health on a person’s overall health, according to Carolina Dentistry’s website, noting that her personality and background “has given her a local reputation as ‘the caring dentist.’ ”

In addition to Laws, the Albemarle team is comprised of two dental assistants and a front desk receptionist.

The office will provide general dentistry services such as same day crowns, dentures and night guards, orthodontic treatment such as braces and aligners, treatment for root canals and periodontal disease and emergency care such as severe toothache or a cracked or chipped tooth, according to its website.

The new facility has appointments available beginning Monday.

In addition to the Albemarle office, the others are in Salisbury, Asheboro, Lincolnton, Mint Hill and Greensboro.
