Sweet Potato Pie

A taste of Christmas by way of Sweet Potato Pie is coming to Badin on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Badin Baptist Church on Falls Road.

The six-member all-female string band presents a lively blend of Americana, bluegrass, classic country and gospel.

Tickets are available for $15 from Loafers and Legends on Falls Road, Better Badin members or online at Eventbrite.

Stony Hill UMC

The church has planned a Community Movie Night on Saturday, complete with free popcorn, at Moonset General Store on Valley Drive. The animated Christmas movie “The Star” will be shown outside at 6 p.m. All children must be accompanied by an adult for this free showing. Please dress warm.

Children and youth from Stony Hill UMC will present a Drive-in Live Nativity at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 19.

Pastor Kaye Fry invites everyone to a Christmas Eve Candlelight Service at SHUMC at 7 p.m. Dec. 24 at 28996 Stony Hill Road.

Palestine UMC

Love Thy Neighbor volunteers and other church members have a variety of preparational gatherings beginning Dec. 12 related to Badin Angel Tree and Badin Elementary food bags. Please check the Facebook posting of the Dec. 5 Sunday bulletin for dates, times and locations.

Palestine Pals meet for lunch Dec. 14 at 11:30 a.m. in the church Fellowship Hall, 36414 Palestine Road, Albemarle.

The church will hold a Christmas Eve service on Dec. 24 at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome.

Better Badin

This community volunteer group holds its monthly meeting the second Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at Loafers and Legends on Falls Road.

The Dec. 13 meeting is open to all interested participants.

Town Council

Town Council meets Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. in the Badin Conference Center. Visitors are welcome.

Movies on the Green

Better Badin presents a free showing of the Disney comedy “The Santa Clause” on Dec. 18 at sundown. Everyone, dress warm, bring blankets and chairs. Better Badin will sell snacks and beverages.

Morrow Mountain

It’s Board Game Night on Dec. 17 from 5-6:30 p.m. in the park Lodge/Office building. The popular game Wingspan offers five slots for players who are pre-registered with Ranger Ryan, ryan.swikle@ncparks.gov. A few other natural resource themed games will be available, or participants may furnish similar games.

The Kron House will be open for tours on Dec. 19 from 2-3 p.m. This property presents the life and times Dr. Frances Kron, an immigrant from Germany to the Piedmont.

The homestead sheds light not only on medical practices in the 1800s, but on Kron’s knowledge of horticulture, on his Stanly County civic involvement, and the interests of his French-born wife and their daughters.
