An Albemarle woman died Wednesday night after getting struck by a car along Canton Road about four miles from the city, according to State Highway Patrol.

Denise Hendrix’s dog had just been struck by a vehicle and she was in the street trying to render aid and drag the animal from the road when a 2007 Honda Accord, driven by Ronny Hinson, struck her, according to Trooper M.R. McCormick, who arrived minutes later at 8:49 p.m.

Hendrix, 50, died at the scene. Her dog was also dead by the time McCormick got there.

As of now, no charges are pending against Hinson and there is no evidence of speeding, according to the Highway Patrol.
