A Stanly County resident is facing criminal charges following a two-vehicle collision last week which resulted in the death of a Montgomery County man, according to the Albemarle Police Department.

Asia Grady, 33, has been arrested and charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle, failure to stop at a steady red light and failure to wear seatbelt by driver after she was involved in a collision with Mitchell Morton at the intersection of U.S. Highway 52 and West Main Street at around 7:12 a.m. Dec. 6.

Grady was driving east on West Main Street in a 2013 Honda Odyssey and collided with Morton, who was driving north on U.S. 52 in a 2020 Jeep Wrangler, police said. No other vehicles were involved in the collision.

Morton, 51, died from his injuries, according to law enforcement. Grady was taken to the hospital, where she was treated and later released.

Grady’s first scheduled court appearance is 9 a.m. Dec. 20.
