The Pfeiffer University women’s basketball team closed the 2021 calendar year with a 74-64 comeback win in the final nonconference game of the season over visiting Bridgewater College on Thursday afternoon at Merner Gym.
Pfeiffer (5-7) trailed by as many as 13 points (52-39) at the 3:39 mark of the third quarter. The Falcons would go on a 10-0 run to cut the Eagle lead to 52-49 after a sophomore Jahlea Peters (Hickory, N.C.) knocked down a pair of free throws with 1:21 left in the quarter.
After Bridgewater (5-5) went up 54-49, a three-pointer from freshman Kenadie Hudler (Jefferson, N.C.) cut the Eagle lead to 54-52, a lead they would hold after the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the teams traded the lead through the first 4:31 of the quarter, with Pfeiffer taking the 61-60 lead after Tanaeshea Ellison (Asheboro, N.C.) hit a pair of free throws.
Pfeiffer would never relinquish the lead the rest of the way, eventually taking the 74-64 win.
As a team, the Falcons shot 33.8% from the field (22-of-65) and hit eight three pointers. Pfeiffer also had a good day at the foul line, going 22-of-30 (73.3%)
