Friends of the Library will host author Dr. Tempest Leake

The Friends of the Stanly County Public Library will host an afternoon with Dr. Tempest Leake at 2 p.m. Jan. 22 at 133 E. Main St., Albemarle, in the lower level of the library.
Leake will talk about her book “What is not Understood, Needs to be Said: Exploring the Complexities of Black Girls.”

Admission is free.

Books will be available for purchase and autographs.

Leake is a wife, mother of three, author, coach and educator. This Stanly County native has spent 14 years in education. Her career in education includes being a science teacher, instructional facilitator, testing coordinator and currently an assistant principal.

Leake is passionate about the education and fair treatment of black girls, especially in rural areas. Her book gives insight to educators, parents and school-age girls on the struggles black girls face in life and academic settings, how to address them and how they themselves can overcome these issues and lead successful lives.
