Minor injuries reported in multi-vehicle collision

Albemarle police and fire units responded to a multi-vehicle collision Thursday morning.

At around 9:03 a.m., a logging trucking traveling on U.S. Highway 52 South reached the intersection of West Main Street when another vehicle traveling east on West Main Street approached a traffic signal and continued through the intersection even though the light was red. The vehicle was struck by the logging truck in the intersection, according a joint press release from the departments.

The logging truck overturned, causing a chain reaction accident involving three other vehicles, according to the press release. Minor injuries were reported.

The accident remains under investigation.

A portion of U.S. Highway 52 between Old Charlotte Road and West Main Street was closed due to the accident for several hours. It has since reopened.
