The Stanly Community College (SCC) Foundation has announced the establishment of the Uwharrie Bank Jacqueline S. Jernigan Endowed Scholarship.

Uwharrie Bank created this $30,000 endowed scholarship to honor Jernigan’s 38-year career with the organization and to assist future students in realizing their dreams and reaching their fullest potential.

One of the longest-serving associates of the bank, she retired in December 2021.
During her time with the bank, she participated in two bank start-ups, multiple branch openings and acquisitions. Advancements in banking technology also allowed her the opportunity to help lead the organization in the implementation of new products and services throughout her career.

Jernigan earned her associate’s degree in accounting in 1982 at the college, which was then named Stanly Technical College.

“I attended evening classes while working full-time and caring for my family. We really didn’t have the money to pay for college, but I was able to go because of scholarships and grants,” said Jernigan. “I cannot say enough about how that assistance made all the difference for me. I’m beyond thrilled to know that the same kindness will be shared with others along their educational journeys.”

When asked about his friend and colleague, Roger Dick, CEO of Uwharrie Bank said, “Jackie is loved and respected by all of our associates. Her efforts and energy toward establishing the bank is beyond measure and we are forever grateful for the difference she has made both in our organization and throughout the community.”

The scholarship will cover tuition, fees and books for eligible students, and will be available starting the fall 2022 semester. Scholarship applications are now being accepted, and are located on the financial aid page at www.stanly.edu.
