A family friend is trying to raise money for a funeral after a couple’s nearly 2-year-old toddler was accidentally killed Wednesday.

A post on the gofundme page created by Haley Burleson Wednesday night stated the following: “Hi, my name is Haley! My friend Sydney and her fiancé Spencer suffered a tragic loss of their 22 month old son January 26th, 2022. SJ was a very happy and loving little boy! He was bubbly, funny, and a loving little boy who always lit up the room when he walked in. He was very loved and will be missed so much! We are wanting to raise money for the funeral expenses so they don’t have to worry about any expenses! They are very thankful for any donations made!”

Donations may also be made through Venmo to $haleynicholeburleson.

According to N.C. Highway Patrol Trooper Chris High, the child was let out of the house apparently when a family dog opened the storm door at a residence on a private drive on Page Road off Rowland Road in the Ridgecrest community. High said the dog had been known to have opened the door before.

“We think that’s how the child got out,” High said.

The child got behind a Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by Jeffery Clark, 47, of Albemarle, who was working on the house’s air conditioning system.

The trooper said Clark believed he had run over the dog, but it was the child, who had gotten out with the dog.

High said as far as the highway patrol was concerned, no charges will be coming from their agency. He said the report will be sent to the district attorney’s office.
