A Stanfield man died following a motor vehicle accident in Midland.

Cabarrus County deputies responded to the 3900 block of N.C. Highway  24-27 East in Midland Monday morning to investigate a motor vehicle crash with injuries. Cabarrus County EMS and Midland Fire personnel were first to
arrive, reporting two vehicles, a Jeep Cherokee and a Dodge Charger, involved in the crash. As Midland Fire blocked the eastbound lanes of N.C. 24-27, other first responders attended to the patients involved in the crash.

Cabarrus County deputies quickly arrived to begin the investigation and assist with traffic control.

The driver of the Jeep Cherokee was pronounced dead on the scene by Cabarrus County EMS. The victim was identified as 43-year-old Robert Arlon Mungo of Stanfield. There were no other occupants in the vehicle.

The driver of the Dodge Charger was transported by Cabarrus County EMS to Atrium Northeast in Concord with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver was identified as 39-year-old Christine Helen Biancoviso of Huntersville.

The Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction unit’s initial investigation reveals that Biancoviso was driving a 2016 Dodge Charger East on N.C. 24-27 when she crossed the center multi-use lane striking the Mungo’s vehicle along the driver’s side. The impact flipped Mungo’s vehicle onto its roof. Additionally, Biancoviso’s statements and actions at the crash scene led deputies to believe she was operating her vehicle while impaired.

After her release from Atrium Northeast, Cabarrus County deputies arrested Biancoviso, charging her with felony death by motor vehicle, driving while license suspended, careless and reckless driving, driving left of center and failure to wear a seatbelt.

Biancoviso received a $30,000 bond. The Sheriff’s Crash Reconstruction Unit continues its investigation of the crash.
