Stanly basketball teams qualify for state playoffs

The NCHSAA has released the playoff brackets for this week’s state basketball playoffs. A number of teams from Stanly County received playoff bids.

Women’s Basketball

The highest seed received by a Stanly team was the North Stanly women’s team in the 2A Western Region. The No. 7 seeded Comets (20-2) host No. 26 West Wilkes (8-15) Tuesday night in the first round.

Two Stanly teams qualified in the 1A Western Region.

Albemarle is the No. 8 seed (17-7) and will host the No. 25 Blue Ridge Early College Bobcats (8-13) at 6 p.m.

Gray Stone, seeded No. 28 (8-11), will be on the road in the first round at No. 5 Bishop McGuinness (20-6).

Men’s Basketball

North Stanly qualified for the postseason in the 2A West Region as the No. 17 seed. The Comets (19-7) travel to No. 16 East Surry (16-7).

West Stanly, who finished second in the Rocky River Conference despite losing six of the team’s top players from last season, will play in the 2A West Region. The No. 31 seed Colts (12-10) will travel to No. 2 Lincoln Charter (21-4).

In the 1A Western Region bracket, Albemarle (11-12) is the No. 30 seed and will travel to No. 3 Uwharrie Charter (18-6) Tuesday.
