Uwharrie Senior Games sets kickoff date

Registration for participants in Uwharrie Senior Games and Silver Arts will kick off 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 3 at the Stanly County Senior Center and the Troy-Montgomery Senior Center.

Adults ages 50 and better are eligible to participate in a variety of sports and games, as well as four categories of artistic skills. Participants may choose as many or as few events as they wish to enter, and competition is divided into five-year age groups.

Examples of events include:

• Senior Games: Walking, Basketball Shooting, Table Tennis, Pickleball, Croquet, Shuffleboard, Horseshoes, Softball Throw and a Softball Team.

•• Silver Arts:

• Visual Arts (painting, drawing); Heritage Arts (knitting, woodworking);

• Literary Arts (poetry, fiction); Performing Arts (vocal, instrumental).

Events are conducted at various sites in Stanly and Montgomery counties, and are designed to encourage fellowship, fun and fitness as well as a year-round active lifestyle.

Events will begin on April 9.

North Carolina Senior Games and Silver Arts began in 1984 to enable adults 50 and up to achieve this goal.

Uwharrie Senior Games is a sanctioned local event of the NC Senior Games and Silver Arts, specifically for residents of Stanly and Montgomery.
